Ghost Mountain

Last weekend we went camping at Borrego Springs. Saturday morning we went to see the remains of the Marshal South home. During the depression, Marshal did an experiment in living, where he moved his family away from civilization, and built a home for his family on a hill top in Blair Valley. For 16 years, they lived off the land. Supplies had to be hauled one mile up a steep trek to the top of Ghost Mountain. Water was carried 12 gallons at a time to be stored in a cistern that he built. I think my wife would shoot me after a week up there....needless to say, the marriage ended up in divorce. Marshal's wife, Tanya died recently at the age of 99. Here are a few pics I took. The first one is of the path up the mountain...pretty steep. Next is the remains of the bedroom. The third...not sure...but there were a lot of old rusted tin cans (kitchen maybe?). The last one shows the adobe wall being reclaimed by the desert. I was also experimenting (and trying to disprove the theory that good photos can't be shot at high noon) with harsh lighting. Through careful shooting angle to the sun and judicious use of polarizers, I was able to get good color saturation even at high noon. Very little post processing was done here.
