Question Please..20D. Help?

I just got my hands on an Canon EF-S 18-55mm Lens. Ive been reading about up regarding this lens and well I see that this lens was specifically designed for the Canon Rebel. I have a 20D and well,

The article I read upon about this has brought up some concern for me :

"...The EF-S 18-55/3.5-5.6 is an unusual Canon EOS lens. It was designed only to be mountable on the Digital Rebel (EOS 300D) body since it has a reduced image circle (enough for the Digital Rebel sensor, but not enough for full frame 35mm) and it sticks further into the camera body than a normal EF series lens...

...The "S" in EF-S stands for "Short back focus". Back focus is the distance from the rearmost point of the last optical surface of the lens to the film or sensor. There are certain advantages in lens design in having this distance small for wide-angle lenses, but the limit in SLR cameras is determined by the requirement that the SLR mirror must not hit the lens when it flips up. The mirror on the Digital Rebel is smaller than that of full frame 35mm cameras because the sensor is smaller and the mirror only needs to be large enough to cover the area of the sensor. This allows the use of a lens with a shorter back focus distance."

(Source: Canon EF-S 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6 Lens Review - the Rebel and Rebel XT Kit Lens - photo.net )

Before I mount the lens and shot with it, Im seeking help before I do something that may harm my gem. So my questions are, Is this lens compatible with the 20D? Can I safely use it with out damaging the sensor or anypart of the camera?

Thanks to all in advance. Much appreciated!

It won't work on a 5D, 1D series but is fine on the APS-C size sensor cameras.

The only time I ran into that problem was when trying to use an older FD lens on the newer EOS mounts. In that case they sell converters that allow you to use FD mounts and also pull the lens farther from the body so it doesn't hit the shutter etc. Like they said above it should be fine on your 20D, it wont hit your sensor but rather the shutter.

Re: Question Please..20D. Help?

I know that the EF-S mounts don't work on a 10D. That said, I bought the 18-55mm EF-S for it anyway since I got it really cheap. The problem is that the lens sticks too far into the camera and the mirror will hit this stupid plastic ring that sticks out the back of the lens and is held by a couple of screws. What I did was to take out the plastic ring and used a mill the machine that stupid ring off, then put the assembly back together. Now that lens works fine with any canon digital camera.

Re: Question Please..20D. Help?

Just to let you all know, I just tried the lens out on the 20D and thankfully its working without a glitch. Im enjoying the lens thus far, especially for the price I paid for it.

Thanks to all that replied to my concerns. Im glad that I have a place to turn to for expertise and improvised advise for all my questions and concerns. Much Appreciated!
