Unhappy Question for those who own a Canon kit lens

So I own a 18-55mm kit lens (it came with my 30D) but I've only used a handful of times. Since I got the 50mm I've been using it all the time. I just have to say that it's a great lens =D

So the other day I decided to use my kit lens just to try it out again. I noticed that on the focusing screen the image is a little grainy but when I take a shot the photo comes out clean. I panic thinking there's something wrong with my camera. So put my 50mm lens back on and the image on the focusing screen is clean and not grainy (I hope this makes sense...).

Is the grainy image on the focusing screen normal with kit lenses? If not, what should I do?

TIA

Re: Question for those who own a Canon kit lens

It shouldnt be noticable but its possible that there is haze from moisture on one of the internal lenses. Although its not showing up through a print or the sensor its picked up through the view finder (due to magnification??) This is my best guess but could be totally wrong.

Maybe because it says CANON???? Okay, low blow. Anyway. Make sure you look through both lenses at the same f-stop. That may make a difference.

There's also a lot of extra glass in the zoom lens as opposed to a prime lens.

Oh it's ON...like Donkey Kong!!! =D

Anyways...I did look through both lenses at the same f-stop. I still get the grainy image through the kit lens and the clear image on my 50mm.

So is the grainy image pretty normal with zoom lenses?

BTW...I just skimmed through my original post and my grammar sucks! Now I'm all embarrassed...

Zoom lenses, by definition, have a lot more glass the light has to pass through.

And don't be embarrassed, it could be worse, you could be a Nikon user.
