Sigma lens question...

I didn't know where to post this question, so I posted here!

I recently acquired a Sigma 28-70mm f/2.8 to sling on my D80. It's the first non-Nikon I've ever acquired for any of my Nikons. Everything seems to work fine, except I can't seem to get the lens to go below f/3. Does anyone know why this might be? What can I do to get it to go all the way to f/2.8 (I know this isn't a helluva lot of difference, but hey, it should go to f/2.8, right?)

Thanks in advance for your help.

Brian

Re: Sigma lens question...

Does the diaphragm snap open and closed freely?

Can you manually close and open the blades mechanically?

Re: Sigma lens question...

In short, yes and yes.

I was thinking it might have something to do with a camera setting and not the lens.

Re: Sigma lens question...

Have you pulled the battery, restarted? Do you have any other lenses that go wider than f/2.8?

Re: Sigma lens question...

Again, yes and yes. Pulled the batteries, cold switched it on to flush residual energy in the camera, reinserted and restarted.

A Nikon 50mm f/1.8 work fine.

Re: Sigma lens question...

I would have to refer you, at this point, over to Photo.net or one of the more fleshed out forums with more Nikon users.

Sorry that I couldn't help.

Re: Sigma lens question...

When the Tammys are new they throw f errors and the AF jams up. After a number of mount and remounts and the contacts get more worn in the problems go away. Maybe you're experiencing a bit of the same thing.
