SD Pride Parade Hillcrest (Back in July?)

So I finally had some film dunked and scanned at Costco Mission Valley from this event.

I was breaking out my old Canon TX for the first time in several years, so my focus and timing were off. I did not have a replacement for the dead battery that was in the cam, so I had no light meter and was purely guessing. Stupidly, I got 400 speed film and used it all day long.

Here are some of the direct-from-scan results:

Uploading them really effed with the saturation and sharpness, I wanted to try uploading them to Picasa and letting the program resize them. Never again!

The real original JPGs have much better depth of color, sharpness and retention of detail, which is what film is all about anyway, so I'm quite disappointed in Picasa.

Costco, however, did a bang-up job for the costs involved, 1 hr wait, 1.59 for the soup and 2.99 for burning the scans to an archival CD. Can't beat that with a stick, esp. when the results are pretty decent (definitely better than most point and shooters would care about) for web use, and you still have the negs for any real work.

I've got a roll of Kodak's C41 process 400 speed B&W that I'm going to try next, and really try for best results with that. Tripod, plenty of shutter speed, and good light, and see what I can come up with in that regard, because that's a main area where I find the digital lacking.
