One strobe, one flower

Single orchid, softbox to the lower left, using techniques from the strobe workshop, black background is completely artificial.

Unfortunately the background looks completely artificial. otherwise the comp is just slightly offset for my eye. Crop a little more off the left side so that the stem falls right at the 1/3 mark and you're GOLDEN!

Re: One strobe, one flower

I'd have given it a bit more "room" up top and to the right.

Light looks pretty good, nice shadow on the lower right to break it up. I'd probably move the 'box a bit further away for harsher light to try and get a bit of fall-off.

Nice start!

Do you like it? Would you hang it on your wall?

Updated image. Adjusted crop, it does make it stronger, thanks.

Re: One strobe, one flower

How'd I miss this? Looks good. Not much to say about it. An idea for the same subject but different shot... Many times when one thinks Strobography they think off-axis (with respect to subject face) light is a must. Not saying this was your thinking, just an intro. This subject doesn't really offer much depth straight on, but what if you turned it to face the softbox and left the camera and softbox where they were? You would still see shadow which would create depth and your DOF would enhance it...

Maybe you could give that a try, if you haven't already, and post the result...

Re: One strobe, one flower

Ah, yes.

Since this orchid has bloomed out, I'll try that with some of the other flowers that are now coming into bloom around the house. These are very showy and I think they can have good results. Look for tests/posts soon.
